“Ambush in the Snow”, original characters set in the “Elder Scrolls” series, Photoshop CS5 and MyPaint, completion time:~ ~3 hours
As usual lately, just guessing on completion time.
Sketched a scene involving some of my Skyrim characters and horses, added a dragon, and suddenly it seemed like it might make a good painting! I’m pretty pleased with how it came out—it’s a bit simple, but the atmosphere came out the way I wanted, and it was good practice for drawing animals.
“Vivec”, original characters set in the “Elder Scrolls” series, Photoshop CS5 and MyPaint, completion time:~4 hours
And another one is finished! I don’t paint a whole lot of night scenes, so this was really good practice. Started with a screencap reference, but I changed things around in the final piece—and I added people! I like to think Vvardenfell is a lot more populated than the game makes it (understandably—making a fully populated island would be CRAZY and also potentially hard on a machine), so in these pieces I’m trying to show what I think it’s like with…more busyness.
More to come! I’ll try to do a different region next time. Harr harr.
“Molag Amur”, original character set in the “Elder Scrolls” series, Photoshop CS5 and MyPaint, completion time: ~5 hours
The next in my little Morrowind series, this one is a painting of the Molag Amur region, which is generally sort of ashy and barren. Starting palette was taken from a screencap, but I elaborated on it quite a bit. Looser brushwork this time around, but I really like how it works with the piece (and also I love loose brushwork).
More on the way! Assuming I don’t get busy all of a sudden, haha.
“Ascadian Isles”, original characters set in the “Elder Scrolls” series, Photoshop CS5 and MyPaint, completion time: ~5 hours
Another Morrowind painting. At least I am getting some (hopefully) quality art finished! I certainly enjoyed working on this one.
A few of my characters in the Ascadian Isles region of Vvardenfell. I looove that area, it’s so lush and relaxing to travel through. I wanted to do a painting of the region, and I had already done a more rough oil painting of it for class, so I figured I’d take a stab at a digital version. I think it turned out really well!
I’ve decided to try my hand at depicting a number of regions in Vvardenfell in digital paintings, so keep an eye out for more of these.
“Caught in the Rain”, original characters based off of the “Elder Scrolls” series, Photoshop CS5 and MyPaint, completion time: ~4 hours
REALLY not sure on completion time, just making a guess there.
A painting at LEAST partially done for my fiance, here is a couple of ladies embracing after ducking out of a rainstorm. I like to imagine that, in this setting (which is Morrowind—I just can’t help myself, I love that series too much), the Redguard lady is a warrior who frequents Desele’s House of Earthly Delights in Suran, and the Breton lady has become quite fond of her warrior visitor.
First full painting I’ve been able to finish since my last piece (Precision)! Not only good practice for different kinds of atmosphere, this one was also good practice for doing wet surfaces. WET SURFACES ARE TRICKY. I think it turned out quite well, though!
“Precision”, original character, Photoshop CS4 and MyPaint, completion time: ~2.5 hours
A painting I started (and finished!) on the spur of the moment this evening. I had planned to relax, but inspiration struck. So! Here’s a depiction of my D&D character, Evelyn Quicklaurel (I figure she’s Generic Fantasy enough to be counted as an original character). Pretty happy with how it came out!
“Armor of the Ancients”, original character, Photoshop CS4 and MyPaint, completion time: ~9 hours
Still practicing this style—I’m really liking it, even if it takes me longer than usual to get everything tweaked to my liking. Kind of a strange lighting scheme here, so I struggled a bit with getting the colors right, but I think it looks nice in the end.
“Mad God’s Wrath”, original character based off of the “Elder Scrolls” series, Photoshop CS4 and MyPaint, completion time: ~3 hours
Experimenting with a style I find more more palatable. I was getting irritated with all the blending and rendering, it just looked…flatter than it ought to. This is much closer to what I’ve been going for—it just took me this long to figure it out. BRILLIANT.
As usual, I’m happy with how this came out for now, though I think this may stick for a bit longer. We’ll see!
“The Mushroom Monarch”, character from the Super Mario Bros. franchise, Photoshop CS4 and MyPaint, completion time: ~5.5 hours
I don’t…actually know if monarch is an appropriate word to use in regards to Peach, but…semantics! That’s not the point.
Finally finished this thing. I still like parts of it, but looking back, I kind of wish I hadn’t done so much on her face. It looked really nice in the start. Lesson learned! It was a good exercise in using lines, so it works out, and I had fun adding shine to the fabric.
“Breath of Life”, original character belonging to Grace Allison, Photoshop CS4 and MyPaint, completion time: ~1.5 hours
A birthday image for Grace Allison! Just a quick painting, still working on using lineart in my paintings, and I think this one turned out really well. Tried using a limited palette (in a sense), and it worked pretty well. I did mess with the levels and all that, but…well. I can’t help myself. It was a good place to start from, anyway.
